if it is safe to download from anywhere else than https://optifine.net. Depends on how much you trust the website, but there's always a chance to get malware If you want quick updates and better performance (especially with shaders), then use some modpack with sodium and iris, there are some for 1.20.2 already.
Go to the official optifine page and find which version you wanna use. Download it and wait for it to be completed. Next open minecraft on the version of the optifine you downloaded and open it after you close Minecraft. Optifine should automatically download.
Note however that each MC version has its dedicated Optifine version, so you need to download the one for the version you want to use. 1.15 Optifine is still a pre-release (beta), and while it supports shaders there might be visual glitches.
I just checked optifine.net on my phone, clicked "download" on a random version, and my browser said something like "redirect blocked" and it displayed a shady link. I'm using Brave which has an adblocker, so it most likely isn't an ad that caused it. What's odd is that right after that happened I couldn't reproduce it.

a back door is essentially a way for the site to download the virus without permission, I suggest getting your PC looked at by a PROFESSIONAL (and I mean a PROFESSIONAL), tell them what happened but also make it clear that Optifine is trusted and used by millions so it probably wasn’t that, also say that you suspect it might be a back door so ...
