Hi Everyone, My wife & and I have a 3100 SF new home under construction in western North Carolina and want to install a high-efficiency woodstove (not insert) as a secondary heat source, as well as a centerpiece to the great room. We're working with an architect so we have the luxury of...
for those of us who heat 24/7 for 7 months of the year and even need heat at times in the other 5 months and who do the install ourselves and buy a stove for a heating appliance not a decoration and have readily available wood on our own land (which is essentially nearly free) and own the required tools regardless of firewooding and have the ...
To visit any stove's page, click its photo in the table above. Q: Greetings, I'm just beginning to educate myself on modern-day wood stoves (been using a Fisher for decades) and I've seen stoves online for example, where one has an efficiency rating of, say, 75% with emissions at 3.5 gm/hr., and another stove will have efficiency of 72% w/ emissions at 2.3.
I am toying with the idea of getting a zero clearance, low profile, large viewing, modern wood-burning fireplace for a new house. I would prefer if it was efficient, but frankly the look is more important. I've found some options from Stuv, RSF, Renaissance, Napoleon, Valcourt, Town & Country...
I have a friend who heats with his wood stove 24x7. When I am by the wood stove, I feel the heat, but also the draft of air on the floor traveling towards the wood stove. Isn't a wood stove, going to consume the Oxygen in the house , thereby creating a pressure drop, thereby pulling in cold air...

Friday night I built a fire in my new Hearthstone Homestead. I got the stove up to 450 and had a nice long burn using techniques learned here. Saturday morning I checked the stove for warmth/coals to discover a 2 inch hairline crack on the outside of the lower left side soapstone panel.
Some folks need a stove that works with a shorter chimney, etc.. Different strokes for different folks. That's why we have a diverse number of options. Far more important than the last nit for emissions or efficiency is the stove design, construction, and features that make it a good fit for your home and lifestyle.
House will be 1800 sq ft open ranch style plan with 24' ceiling peak in the 17x19 great room where hearth will be. I love the look and size of a fireplace but I'm concerned about the function and reliability of a high efficiency fireplace. After doing my homework here, I believe a wood stove would heat much more effectively. Any suggestions??
Hey everyone I'm trying to decide wether I need a high effeciency wood burning fireplace or a wood stove. I really like the Napoleon 3000 fireplace but I'm worried it won't throw out enough heat. My living room is 20 x 20 with 17' walls then it cathedral ceiling up to 22'. The foyer attaches to this room along with the kitchen and dining room.
