It did appear in the device manager as a floppy drive when connected and disappeared from the device manager list when disconnected. I can see in Device Manager when it happens, it sees a "Generic Flash Disk USB Device" is now attached. The USB Mass Storage Device driver loads in the USB controllers section. But "disk and partition management" doesn't see it, it doesn't show up in diskpart either, Windows Explorer of course doesn't budge, no sign of the drive.
