SVG help. Scalable Vector Graphics is a commonly used file format for providing a geometrical description of an image using basic objects such as labels, circles, lines, curves and polygons. An image can be reduced or enlarged to an arbitrary size, and will not suffer image data loss, nor will it become pixelated.
There are 4 basic choices for image file formats : SVG for simple diagrams (especially those that need to be scaled). JPEG for photographic images. GIF for animated images. PNG for everything else. While some formats offer multiple compression systems, in general the format and the compression system are tied together.
Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) is an XML -based vector image format for defining two-dimensional graphics, having support for interactivity and animation. The SVG specification is an open standard developed by the World Wide Web Consortium since 1999. SVG images are defined in a vector graphics format and stored in XML text files.
A "bad" SVG can be identified because it will convert slowly (more than 5 seconds), it will be very large for an SVG (over 500kB-1MB) and it will render very slowly on WP - there is a long wait while the text and other images on the page are loaded, but the SVG image does not show up. Bad SVGs put a lot of strain on the Wiki servers.
The bitmap image is composed of a fixed set of pixels, while the vector image is composed of a fixed set of shapes. In the picture, scaling the bitmap reveals the pixels while scaling the vector image preserves the shapes. An image does not have any structure: it is just a collection of marks on paper, grains in film, or pixels in a bitmap ...
This image needs to be converted to the SVG format. Once that is done, it should be moved to Wikimedia Commons in accordance with Wikipedia's image policy. Open the PostScript file in Scribus. Note the image size and set the paper size to about 10px larger than the largest dimension. NB:SymyxDraw will usually add a full page rectangle to the drawing - ungroup, select rectangle and delete, then select all and re-group structure. Go to File → Export → Save page as SVG.
