Feather Christmas trees were first created in Germany in the 1880s [1] [2] or 1890s [3] and are regarded as one of the first types of artificial Christmas trees. [2] [4] These first artificial trees were, in part, a response to growing environmental concerns in the late 19th century concerning deforestation associated with the harvest of Christmas trees in Germany. The first Shiny Brite ornaments had the traditional metal cap and loop, with the hook attached to the loop, from which the ornament was hung from the tree. Wartime production necessitated the replacement of the metal cap with a cardboard tab, from which the owner would use yarn or string to hang the ornament.
Eucalyptus formanii, commonly known as Die Hardy mallee, [3] Forman's mallee or feather gum, [4] is a species of tree or mallee that is endemic to Western Australia. It has rough bark over most, or all of its trunk, smooth bark above, linear adult leaves, flower buds in groups of seven or nine, creamy white flowers and cup-shaped to hemispherical fruit.

[5] Ripe fruit are about the size of large cherry, and yellowish/orange in color, but can also include a blush towards the tip.

It was founded in Kenya on 22 July 1922 by Richard St. Barbe Baker as Men of the Trees. [1] It operates in several countries in Africa and in the United Kingdom. [2]
