Kagewani (Japanese: 影鰐, lit. Shadow Crocodile) is a Japanese horror anime television series centered around scientist Sōsuke Banba and his encounters with Unidentified Mysterious Animals or "UMAs". [2] The series of shorts premiered on 2 October 2015 on Tokyo MX and BS11 as part of the Ultra Super Anime Time programming block. [3]
The series is being simulcast on Crunchyroll worldwide outside of Asia, and Funimation began streaming an English dub on January 20, 2018. [15] [16] The series ran for 12 episodes and was released as three separate sets on DVD, on March 30, 2018, April 27, 2018, and May 25, 2018. The second and third sets each include an OVA episode. [11]
The series was scheduled to air as part of the Ultra Super Anime Time program of anime shorts from Ultra Super Pictures, [6] alongside Space Patrol Luluco and the second season of Kagewani. [14] It was to have premiered on 1 April 2016, [6] and been broadcast on Tokyo MX, BS11, and AT-X. [15]
Kodoku is used in the anime Fushigi Yûgi (Episode 18) as a drug to change the personality of one of the major protagonists, Tamahome. The Kagewani from the anime of the same name is a shadow creature that was created through kodoku using several different animals instead of insects.
The anime is produced by Creators in Pack, with collaboration support by Trigger. The series of anime shorts aired on October 2, 2015, in Japan as part of the Ultra Super Anime Time programming block, alongside Kagewani and Miss Monochrome: The Animation 3 [1] and finished on December 25, 2015.

The English dub, provided and distributed by Sentai Filmworks, was released on DVD and Blu-ray in two parts in 2016, with part 1 (episodes 1–12) on April 5, [62] and part 2 (episodes 13–24) on July 5.
