Lucie Eddie Campbell, the youngest of eleven children, was born to Burrell and Isabella (Wilkerson) Campbell in Duck Hill, Mississippi, US on April 30, 1885. [1] Her father worked for the Mississippi Central Railroad (later purchased by the Illinois Central Railroad), and she was born in the caboose of a train. [1]
"Footprints," also known as "Footprints in the Sand," is a popular modern allegorical Christian poem. It describes a person who sees two pairs of footprints in the sand, one of which belonged to God and another to themselves. At some points the two pairs of footprints dwindle to one; it is explained that this is where God carried the protagonist.
This article refers to the English version. The book was published on the 150th anniversary of the publication of the first LDS hymnbook, compiled by Emma Smith in 1835. Previous hymnbooks used by the church include The Manchester Hymnal (1840), The Psalmody (1889), Songs of Zion (1908), Hymns (1927), and Hymns (1948).
In 1927, the church's Music Committee decided to combine the best of the first three of these hymnals into one volume. The result was called Latter-day Saint Hymns, though it was commonly called "the green hymnbook". It contained 419 hymns, of which 128 still survive in the church's 1985 hymnal.
