By October 2022, 1,582 Americans remained unaccounted for, of which 1,004 were classified as further pursuit, 488 as non-recoverable and 90 as deferred. [1]

The listed operations span from the 5th century BC to the end of World War II. Excluded from this list are last living veterans of wars and insurgencies.
The first living recipient since the Vietnam War and the fourth Afghanistan recipient, Salvatore Giunta, received his for his actions in 2007 when he risked his life to save a wounded comrade.
