The global induction cooktops market was estimated at $9.16 billion in value during 2015. [citation needed] In April 2010, The New York Times reported that "In an independent survey [in 2009] by the market research company Mintel of 2,000 Internet users who own appliances, only 5 percent of respondents said they had an induction range or ...
A wood-burning iron stove A stove at Holzwarth Ranch, Colorado. A kitchen stove, often called simply a stove or a cooker, is a kitchen appliance designed for the purpose of cooking food. Kitchen stoves rely on the application of direct heat for the cooking process and may also contain an oven, used for baking. "Cookstoves" (also called "cooking ...
If an induction cooktop is 84% efficient and a smooth top is 74% efficient, how much less energy does the induction top use? 12%, not 10%. To put 100 units of heat in the pot, an induction top will consume 100/.84 = 119 units of energy from the line. A smooth top will take 100/.74 = 135. (135-119)/135 = 12%.
These cooktops have a smooth surface and are thus easier to clean, but are markedly more expensive. [citation needed] A third technology is the induction stove, which also has a smooth glass-ceramic surface. Only ferromagnetic cookware works with induction stoves, which heat by dint of electromagnetic induction. [15]
Methods of electric heating include resistance heating, electric arc heating, induction heating, and dielectric heating. In some processes (for example, arc welding), electric current is directly applied to the workpiece. In other processes, heat is produced within the workpiece by induction or dielectric losses. As well, heat can be produced ...

'Range' means something quite different in British English. 'Cooktop' is far from clear. An induction hob would not normally be considered a stove or stove top here. Its a hob; sorry, but that's just what it is. There is a simple solution for anyone that can't accept international variation: use both words and put one in brackets (parentheses).
When an oven is contained in a complete stove, the fuel used for the oven may be the same as or different from the fuel used for the burners on top of the stove. Ovens usually can use a variety of methods to cook. The most common may be to heat the oven from below. This is commonly used for baking and roasting.
