The Golf R is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged direct-injection petrol engine (TSI) producing 320 PS (235 kW; 315 hp) and 420 N⋅m (310 lbf⋅ft) which is an increase of 20 PS (15 kW; 20 hp) and 40 N⋅m (30 lbf⋅ft) when compared to the Mk7.
