  2. Black Pvc Pipe???? - The Reef Tank

    www.thereeftank.com/threads/black-pvc-pipe.127711

The black and clear PVC pipe from US Plastics is what I mentioned. It is PVC. However ABS is non-toxic. It is used in waste lines because it is unaffected by common household chemicals such as drain cleaners, ammonia, bowl cleaners, and cleansers. Plastic Pipe and Fittings Assoc. is a good source of information. Krylon Fusion has been used safely.

When I did use it as a hang on the back way, I did encounter the bubbles you are talking about. What I did was purchase a small block filter pad (like the ones used for Aquaclear filters) and made a cut in the middle of it and hung it on the black plastic return spill on the Seaclone. This eliminated about 90% of the bubbles.

  4. The ongoing struggle to hide plumbing: what are some options?

    www.thereeftank.com/threads/the-ongoing-struggle-to-hide...

Try to keep everything to the back of the tank or near the top. If you have most of your inputs and outputs on the back, you can paint the back and you can build the rock work to cover some. By putting things near the top a canapy can be made to hide things not so attractive to the eye. If you have things in the side of the tank those tend to ...

  6. Bulkhead size question - The Reef Tank

    www.thereeftank.com/threads/bulkhead-size-question.212504

It is a slip/ barbed bulkhead. the ID of the drain pipe is 1 1/4". I can't find any pipe that has that ID. I bought 1 1/2" and 1" flex pipe and one is too big, the other to small. I's starting to think that the bulkhead/ drain, and a horrible plastic sump came as a package with the odd size to prevent you from using other parts.

Is the pipe outside of the tank? If so paint the back of the tank black. I am going to spray paint card stock for my 125G tank and use Velcro to keep it attached. So you don't see the fish room behind the tank. In your case this would hide the plumping behind the tank.

  8. Weirs, How And Where? | The Reef Tank

    www.thereeftank.com/threads/weirs-how-and-where.197681

To do this you need to multiply the length of the tank by the width of the tank by 20 all in mm. Example: Our tank as used above 2440 x 610 x 20 = 29768000 cubic mm of water that will still pass over the Weir once the pump has stopped. If we designed a sump say 2/3rds the tank size so 1626mm long by 457mm deep by 457mm wide.

The black plastic box with the clear lid would be a media basket the drains would attach to the plumbing on the lid. If my surmise is correct the media basket would go at the far end of large section skimmer between it and bubble trap, return pump in small section.
