Trying to figure out a decent layout for a 20x24 loft cabin, originally had a two bedroom signal level plan but the wife isn't happy with the amount of room .main level must have stairs (can be steep), bathroom and small bedroom big enough for bunk beds or twin at max.
Cabin Forum/Blog: Ok. Been on here for a while looking, but now have a serious question since we just closed on some property in Ohio. We are going to use the camper that came with the property for this year, but plan on building something next year. We are looking at doing a 24 x24 single story building with no loft.

I found the 12x24 Homesteaders plans by Janzen but I wanted my cabin to be 24x24 and single level (no loft) with a simple slant roof (not grambel) My question is I take it I could simply put two of these 12x24 ...
For the loft I am using a double LVL 9/1/2in lumber as a beam and running 2x8's to the wall notching the wall to accept them. This way I can keep a clear span downstairs. If i did want to put a floor in, i would just put 2 beams in the floor and run 2x8's across on the first run. this would only cost me 8 inches, and im making the downstairs ...
I will have a 6x24 loft over the porch and I plan on continuing it into the cabin for a total of 22'x24'. I was thinking having a beam round down the center and ending about 17' in with a support and running joists across resting on the outer walls and center beam.I can upload a design of what I'm thinking if the above doesn't make sense.
Cabin Forum/Blog: I want to do a 24 ft wide 1 1/2 story with a loft. Originally I got a lumber quote it gave me scissor trusses, 12/12 outside and 7/12 inside pitch. The loft was figured with room trusses with an 8 ft ceiling. After some thought I don t think the combo will work together well so back to the drawing board.
Cabin Forum/Blog: Hey all, first post so cut me some slack. My dad and I have some land and about 20k right now to start our cabin build. We’re in the early planning stages and want some input from people that have done this before. For some background, we’re in Southern wisconsin on mostly sandstone, roof will have to 30 spf.
(24x24). I would like to add a little more room and go 28x32, but the added cost due to the 28ft span of trusses as well as all the other costs in adding just 32sq ft of space makes it a little more than my budget.. heh. I would rather keep it at 24x24 and make sure to use hardi plank for the external walls etc.
