You can add a table using HTML rather than wiki markup, as described at HTML element#Tables. However, HTML tables are discouraged because wikitables are easier to customize and maintain, as described at manual of style on tables. Also, note that the <thead>, <tbody>, <tfoot>, <colgroup>, and <col> elements are not supported in wikitext.

This also applies to other coding approaches, such as divs with CSS styling, or rowspan and colspan HTML cell attributes. Nesting data tables with header cells also makes it difficult for assistive readers to parse them sensibly, and should be avoided.
If you use tables for two-dimensional graphics you might discover a "feature" in HTML that promotes grey hair. It can affect both rows and columns, depending on the use of either rowspan or colspan. In this 7-row table three cells are assigned a rowspan of 3, but the table totals 6 rows. Where is row 4? There is a row 5-4!

There is an easy online wiki table editor here: wikitable.eu5.org; It makes it easy to edit the text and links in individual cells of a table. It is especially easy when there are no rowspans in the body of a table. See the previous section. Without rowspans it is easier to change the underlying framework of a table, and move stuff around.
Make the table head top sticky. Don't combine with sticky-table-rowN. Requires sortable table, which moves consecutive top header rows into the <thead> (table head) HTML element. Rows using the sorttop class become sticky after sorting (issue: T355492). Avoid making headers sticky that aren't for the entire table (ex. section header rows).
