The American Kennel Club (AKC) is a registry of purebred dog pedigrees in the United States. [4] Since the first dog show in 1859, shows had become increasingly popular. Shirley is listed as an exhibitor of Fox Terriers at the Birmingham Dog Show Society show in 1865.
