The Hitmaker is the Fender Stratocaster owned by American guitarist Nile Rodgers.The guitar is a white 1960s model (sometimes incorrectly identified as a 1959 model [1]) with a hardtail bridge, [1] which has been retrofitted with a 1959 maple neck.
Number One (also known as Vaughan's 'First Wife') was a Fender Stratocaster used by Vaughan for most of his career; it was "rebuilt more times than a custom Chevy." [2] Vaughan always claimed it was a 1959 model, since that date was written on the back of the pick-ups; Rene Martinez, who maintained the guitar since 1980, saw the year 1963 stamped in the body and 1962 on the neck. [6]
The STRAT featured a hotter bridge pickup, marketed by Fender as the X-1. The controls and hardware were gold plated and included a uniquely massive synchronized tremolo. There was no standard neck for The STRAT, but three shapes were available: C, D, and U. Some colors featured matched headstock painting.
The Fender Custom Shop produced an entry level, team built Stratocaster that was discontinued in 2008. The Custom Classic Strat was intended to be a combination of the best aspects of vintage and modern Strats. The guitar boasted 3 Modern Classic pickups along with a Custom Classic 2-point tremolo with pop-in tremolo bar.
David Gilmour (born 1946) has used a Telecaster and Esquire from Fender in addition to his regularly used Fender Stratocaster. His beat-up looking Esquire was used on his 1978 self-titled solo album on backing tracks, [ 34 ] the studio version of " Run Like Hell " from The Wall , [ 35 ] and recently on Paul McCartney 's Run Devil Run album.
