The Downtown Rock Island Historic District is a national historic district encompassing 82.3 acres (33.3 ha) in downtown Rock Island, Illinois.The oldest buildings in the district are from the 1860s, two decades after Rock Island's founding, and buildings from then until 1969 can be found in the district, making it reflective of the city's development over time.

Weyerhaeuser and his brother-in-law, Frederick Denkmann, founded the Weyerhaeuser and Denkmann Lumber Company in Rock Island. The company continues today as the Weyerhaeuser Company with its offices in Federal Way, Washington. [3] As the company prospered Weyerhaeuser bought a house in 1865 and re-built it from 1882 to 1883.

The Best Building is a historic building located in downtown Rock Island, Illinois, United States. It was built by Louis Best, an industrialist and real estate magnate from Davenport, Iowa in 1908. It was designed by the prominent Davenport architectural firm of Clausen & Clausen in the Renaissance Revival style.
