Zellers was a Canadian discount store chain founded by Walter P. Zeller in 1931. It was acquired by the Hudson's Bay Company (HBC) in 1978, and after a series of acquisitions and expansions, peaked with 350 locations in 1999. [2]
Converted to Zellers in 1991. The store converted to Walmart in 2012 as part of 39 Zellers leases sold by Target to Walmart Canada. New Minas (Gardens Mall) Converted to Zellers in 1991. The store was also paired with an IGA grocery store. With the takeover of Towers; Zellers continued operating the two locations during the 1990s.
On August 12, 1993, 13 former Woodward's locations instantly opened as The Bay stores while 10 would start renovating in order to be taken over later in the year by Zellers. [6] These 23 conversions include two locations that were split among The Bay and Zellers, at Oakridge Centre and Chinook Centre .
Semiahmoo Shopping Centre (/ ˌ s ɛ m i ˈ æ m uː / SEH-mee-AH-moo) is an indoor shopping mall on the Semiahmoo peninsula in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada. Opened in 1980, the shopping centre is named after the nearby Semiahmoo Bay and is currently anchored by Save-On-Foods and Winners.
The store was soon expanded to 7,500 and then 10,000 square feet, and was replaced in 1962 with a 45,000 square foot unit directly behind it. A second Zayre store opened in September 1956 in the Roslindale section of Boston, a much larger 39,000 square feet. Within a few years, Zayre stores would average 70,000 to 90,000 square feet.
