Endeavour is a British television detective drama series created by Russell Lewis and co-produced by Mammoth Screen and Masterpiece in association with ITV Studios.It is a prequel to the long-running Inspector Morse series and was first broadcast on ITV1 in the United Kingdom on 2 January 2012 and on PBS in the United States on 1 July 2012, as part of the Masterpiece Mystery! anthology.
Endeavour is the third of the Inspector Morse series, following the original Inspector Morse (1987–2000) and its spin-off, Lewis (2006–2015). Nine series were made, set from 1965 to 1972. After a pilot episode broadcast in 2012, set in 1965, the first series was broadcast in 2013, also set in 1965.
In recent years, ITV has overseen a high-definition restoration of the drama from the original 16 mm negatives so as to boost the HD content on ITV3 HD. Many of these HD episodes retain the original 4:3 ratio, though some of the later episodes (including the series finale) have been opened into a 16:9 widescreen frame.

The number of the season continues in the sequence set by the predecessor series, Masterpiece Theatre, which ended with Season 37.
