38 Special, often stylized as .38 Special or spelled out as Thirty-eight Special, is an American rock band formed by singer-guitarists Donnie Van Zant (born Donald Newton Van Zant on June 11, 1952) and Don Barnes (born Richard Donald Barnes on December 3, 1952) in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1974.
