The Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities (also called The Guild) is a university network founded in 2016. [ 1 ] [ 2 ] It currently comprises twenty-one of Europe's research-intensive universities in sixteen countries.

The University of Groningen (RUG) is a member of the so-called Excellence Group of universities in Europe. The Excellence Group has 56 members, which is 1.3 percent of the approximately 4,500 European institutions of higher education. [29] RUG belongs to the top 100 large comprehensive research universities in the world. [30]
The Laura Shannon Prize in Contemporary European Studies is a $10,000 book prize sponsored by the Nanovic Institute for European Studies at the University of Notre Dame.The Laura Shannon Prize is awarded annually to the author of the "best book in European studies that transcends a focus on any one country, state, or people to stimulate new ways of thinking about contemporary Europe as a whole."
The League of European Research Universities (LERU) is an association of research-intensive universities. Founded in 2002, as a partnership among twelve multi-faculty research universities, in 2024 it expanded its membership to twenty-four. As the latest addition, ETH Zurich joined the alliance on 1 January 2024.
