It is the second-largest county in total area in Indiana, but has the largest water area of all 92 counties. [19] The northern and southern portions of the county (north of U.S. 30 and south of Lowell) are mainly low and flat, except for a few sand ridges and dunes and were both once very marshy and had to be drained.
According to the 2020 census, the township has a total area of 62.07 square miles (160.8 km 2), of which 61.96 square miles (160.5 km 2) (or 99.81%) is land and 0.12 square miles (0.3 km 2) (or 0.19%) is water. [6] The township includes a small portion of the incorporated town of Lowell, as well as the town of Schneider.
