Aviano Air Base (IATA: AVB, ICAO: LIPA) (Italian: Base aerea di Aviano) is a base in northeastern Italy, in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region.It is located in the Aviano municipality, at the foot of the Carnic Pre-Alps or Southern Carnic Alps, about 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) from Pordenone.
The airport was founded by the Aeronautica Militare, Italy's Air Force, in 1926. A flight training facility was in operation between 1933 and 1943. The first hangar was designed by Pier Luigi Nervi, a famous architect. In 1946, a meteorological service was established, and in 1952, the Salerno Air Club was founded.
The airport was established in October 1926 with a 1,300-metre (4,300 ft) landing runway. [2]In June 2016, a public opinion poll decided to no longer support the highly deficient airport with money from the government.
