Third generation infrared MANPADS, such as the French Mistral, the Soviet 9K38 Igla, and the US Stinger B, use rosette scanning detectors to produce a quasi-image of the target. Their seeker compares input from multiple detections bands, either two widely separated IR bands or IR and UV , giving them much greater ability to discern and reject ...
Arguably, the first MANPATS could be anti-tank rifles developed during World War I. An anti-tank rifle is a rifle designed to penetrate the armour of vehicles, particularly tanks. The usefulness of rifles for this purpose ran from the introduction of tanks in World War I and until the Korean War. While medium and heavy tank armour became too ...

The 9K32 Strela-2 (Russian: Cтрела, lit. 'Arrow'; NATO reporting name SA-7 Grail) is a light-weight, shoulder-fired, surface-to-air missile or MANPADS system. It is designed to target aircraft at low altitudes with passive infrared-homing guidance and destroy them with a high-explosive warhead.
The QW-18 is a new version of the MANPADS series. It is a all-weather MANPADS system. It uses a dual-band passive infrared seeker, the target plume and skinning two heat detection. The QW-18A features electric-servo control actuators to increase guidance and flight characteristics. Range: 500 to 5,000 m; Altitude: 10 to 4,000 m.
RBS 70 (Robotsystem 70) is a man-portable air-defense system (MANPADS) designed for anti-aircraft warfare in all climate zones and with little to no support from other forces. Originally designed and manufactured by the Swedish defence firm of Bofors Defence (now Saab Bofors Dynamics , since 2000).
The prefix "C" here indicates that this is a version of the QW-2 that is mounted on a 4x4 vehicle (from Chinese "Che-Zai", "vehicle-mounted").. It is served by a crew of 3 men (driver, gunner and gunner) and the fire control is made up of an acquisition radar and optronic tracking equipment.
