Not a bad construction lumber, sometimes brittle and try to use cement-coated nails. It is often used for pallets and crating. Major downfall is that it is notoriously hard to dry straight.

    Hi my buddy has a Saw mill and I get what ever I need from him, I have built a Chicken Coop out of Rough Cut Hemlock and Pine, The Boards ( 10 Inch X 1 Inch ) are Pine and the Battons ( 2.5 Inch X 1 Inch ) are Hemlock, And I also put up a Horse Fence using the same stuff ( 6 Inch X 1 Inch ).

True equipment trailer wood decking Is nearly always elm decking on trailers for rough use, ie tracks etc. The elm grain holds up to the rough use and will actually get some "grip" to it. White or american elm lumber is lighter than red or slippery, but the later will last a little longer.

    I don't know anything about milling and making lumber out of different trees, but Im curous why you guys do portable milling. Near where I live you can go to some small saw mills and get rough lumber- farmers around here use it to make sheds and for rough projects. I suppose you can buy it form the mills cheaper than you can cut your own.

    We always preferred rough cut green white oak for our lowboys decking. Nothing resist weather better especially after being soaked in oil and grease. Also steel decking is slicker than snot on an oil slick. Dangerous when loading even tracked equipment. White oak resist dents better as well as equivalent weight steel as well.

A fancy shop with a fancy name will sell a more expensive product. I was pretty happy to get 3-4 dollars a bft for a slab.
