The Clifton Heights Historic District is a 26-acre (11 ha) historic district in Natchez, Mississippi, USA. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. It then included 41 contributing buildings. [1] In 1888, the neighborhood started as a subdivision, one of the first in Natchez by the Clifton Heights Improvement Corporation.
It is located at number 821 on Main Street in Natchez, Mississippi. [ 3 ] It has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since October 16, 1974 for the architecture; [ 2 ] [ 3 ] and is a contributing property to the Natchez On-Top-of-the-Hill Historic District.
The mansion was built in 1835–1836. [2] Galleries of lacy iron work said to have been brought from Belgium. [3] In 1852, Francis Surget (1784-1856) purchased it for his daughter Jane (Surget) Merrill (1829-1866) and her husband Ayres Phillips Merrill II (1826-1883).
