As far as a guide, the game is fairly nonlinear and you can get a lot of upgrades in different orders. In general I would say Crossroads>Greenpath>City but past that just go wild. And that’s just my opinion. Fully explore the forgotten crossroads and you will find a few shops. Those can help you spend early geo and get items and charms to aid ...
It’s very rewarding to receive the items through exploring. There are many different paths, so if you get stuck try going elsewhere. There’s a natural learning curve to the game as you progress to make encounters easier! But if all else fails you can check gamefaqs for a complete guide, and the hollow knight wiki is a great resource! 3.
This doesn't consider / map out any speedrun skips that weren't intentionally put into the game, that would make this absurdly more complicated than it already is.The image is 5760x3240, you may need to zoom in a bit! It was a lot harder to make as a 3840x2160, and it got crowded very quickly. 2. Award.

Generally the "typical progression" is to start in the Crossroads, go to Greenpath once you get Vengeful Spirit, and once you get the ability in Greenpath you head to the centre of the kingdom through Fungal Wastes, picking up an ability there along the way. From there, the game basically opens up entirely ...
Attack walls and ceilings, look for hidden passages, and watch out for shaky floors. Make note of places you can't get to yet and return when you have the appropriate ability. Enemies respawn. Basic enemies respawn once you leave the screen. All others, except for bosses, respawn when you rest at a bench.

There is definitely an optimal path (not saying i know what it is). But i don't think there is an intended path. once you have all mobility perks you are basically open to get to any point on the map (almost). so these are the regions youll get them: greenpath, wastes, crystal peak, ancient basin and lastly abyss.
