The Bangladesh Navy (Bengali: বাংলাদেশ নৌবাহিনী) is the naval warfare branch of the Bangladesh Armed Forces, responsible for the defence of Bangladesh's 118,813 square kilometres (45,874 sq mi) of maritime territorial area from any external threat, the security of sea ports and exclusive economic zones of Bangladesh. The two frigates are the first ever frigate and the first ever guided missile frigate of the Bangladesh Navy. The admiral also commanded two OPVs, BNS Sangu and BNS Madhumati, and also one small patrol craft, BNS Tamjid. The Admiral's shore commands have included two major naval bases of the Bangladesh Navy, BNS Titumir & BNS Issa Khan.

It is the highest achieved rank in the Bangladesh Navy. Admiral ranks above the three-star rank of Vice Admiral. The rank is denoted as a full-fledged Admiral to extricate subordinate officers like Vice Admiral and Rear Admiral which are also flag officers. The rank was established in 2016, when Admiral M.
