There has been a Serbian community in the area since the 1940s, when Serbian POWs and anti-Communist refugees from German camps arrived in Halifax in 1947. They needed a place to worship and were given a former United Methodist Church in Simpson Street to worship in. Closed in the 1950s, it was acquired by the Serbian Orthodox Church in 1952.
The pits on the Tyldesley side of Boothstown had closed by 1870. [7] In 1931 Boothstown Mines Rescue Station was built along with housing for the rescue team members and other staff, it is a Grade II Listed building. [8] [9] A Mr Smith built a small cotton mill in Boothstown Delph by the Stirrup Brook in 1812. [4]

An ancient stone marked the boundary between the Hundreds of Salford and West Derby , the boundary of Eccles and Leigh ecclesiastical parishes , Tyldesley, Worsley and Little Hulton townships and the metropolitan districts of Wigan and Salford .
