Rogue Subclasses A Rogue subclass is a specialization that grants you features at certain Rogue levels, as specified in the subclass. This section presents the Arcane Trickster, Assassin, Soulknife plus your Dexterity modifier and Proficiency Bonus), or the attack’s damage is doubled against the target.
Most of them live up to the worst stereotypes of the class, making a living as burglars, assassins, cutpurses, and con artists. Often, these scoundrels are organized into thieves’ guilds or crime families. Plenty of rogues operate independently, but even they sometimes recruit apprentices to help them in their scams and heists.
I considered shadow and fey touched but soulknife has a teleport and an invisibility feature (albeit at a higher level but the first few feats/ASIs are already spoken for, at the very least elven accuracy and +2 dex) and the shadar elf has a misty step-like ability, so they felt sort of redundant.
Many rogues use daggers, 1d4, because ultimately a rogue's damage output isn't based on their blade of choice. It's from their Sneak Attack. The point of a rogue is to find ways to utilise sneak attack, without staying up close and in the danger. The psychic blades make it easier to do that with their 60 ft range.
The Rogue remains a cunning, hard-hitting sneak in the 2024 Player’s Handbook, with Sneak Attack remaining a staple and still offering the same damage and progression as its 2014 counterpart. But the class now gains new ways to spend Sneak Attack damage die, access to Weapon Mastery, and updated subclasses, notably the Assassin and Thief.
Recently I finished a half-year campaign as a 15th Soulknife Rogue. We all started at 3rd level, so the entire party had lots of opportunity to experience the subclass (aside from the 17th level ability, of course). My character was a LG Wood Elf with the Soldier background, and Standard Array for stats.
Swords probably: Bard 3/Rogue 3/Bard 2/Rogue 1. Whispers: Rogue 3/Bard 6 if interested in Mantle of Whispers. If not, either Rogue 3/Bard 5/Rogue 1 or Rogue 4/Bard 5 depending on preference. I'm currently playing a Goolock/Soulknife multiclass that is extremely fun. Makes for a very spooky party face.
Bag of holding/Portable Hole/Heward’s Haversack (hold your stuff, hold the party’s stuff, hide your stuff from prying eyes) Cloak of the Manta Ray (invaluable if you’re underwater, useless otherwise) Gloves of Thievery (kind of a situational win more item for you, but just getting a passive +5 to certain checks is nice) Immovable Rod ...
The new Tasha's Cauldron subclass Soulknife has a feature where you can create a blade of energy and attack with it, and that says: After you attack with the blade, you can make a melee or ranged weapon attack with a second psychic blade as a bonus action on the same turn, provided your other hand is free to create it.
3. Bracer of Flying Daggers. Wondrous item, rare (requires attunement) Not every rogue enjoys hurling daggers from the shadows, but if you do, then the bracer of flying daggers might quickly become your favorite item. This magic armband contains a never-ending supply of throwing daggers.
