Leroy Greene Academy was preceded by Leroy F. Greene Middle School, which was opened on July 1, 1980, serving grades 6-8. [3] It was closed by the Natomas Unified School District in 2010 as a cost-saving measure and also due to the school's failure to reach academic benchmarks. [4] [5] Leroy F. Greene was closed instead of an elementary school.
A total of 1,300 students started attending the school that year, although it was built to accommodate 1,800 and has a total capacity of 2,200. [2] For the previous three years, high school students in the district attended classes on the campus of Leroy Greene Middle School. [3] In 1998, the school started a Business and Professions Academy.
