Sergio Osmeña Sr. CCLH (Spanish: [ˈseɾxjo osˈmeɲa], Tagalog: [ˈsɛɾhjo ʔosˈmɛɲa]; Chinese: 吳文釗; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Gô͘ Bûn-chiau; September 9, 1878 – October 19, 1961) was a Filipino lawyer and politician who served as the fourth President of the Philippines from 1944 to 1946.
Esperanza Limjap y Escolar was born in San Miguel, Manila to Mariano Limjap y Nolasco and María Escolar y Carreón. [1]She married Osmeña, then the House Speaker and representative from Cebu, on January 10, 1920, in San Miguel, Manila, two years after the death of Osmeña's first wife, Estefania Chiong Veloso.
Serge Osmeña came from a family of senators. His grandfather Sergio Sr. served during the American colonial period. His father Sergio Jr. served in the 1960s. His cousin, John Henry served in the Senate from 1971 to 1972, 1987–1992, 1992–1995 and 1998–2004. His maternal grandfather, Esteban de la Rama of Negros Occidental was also a senator.
