Carson Long Military Academy was founded as Bloomfield Academy in 1836 by Robert Finley in New Bloomfield, Pennsylvania as a Latin Grammar school with only six students. In 1840 the school was moved two blocks up the hill to its present location; the first building was constructed the same year and is still in use as a reception hall and museum.

A post office named New Bloomfield was established in early 1825, [7] and the federal government refers to the populated place corresponding with the borough by this name. [8] However, the borough was incorporated as Bloomfield in 1831, [ 9 ] which remains the current official name of the borough.
Bloomfield High School is a four-year comprehensive public high school serving students in ninth through twelfth grades in Bloomfield, in Essex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey, operating as the lone secondary school of the Bloomfield Public Schools. The school was established in 1871, with its current facility completed in 1911.

1956: New gymnasium added to New Bloomfield School. 1959: New Bloomfield incorporated as a city. 1961: New Bloomfield Post Office moved into new building next door. 1965: New and separate elementary school opened in January for elementary grades, special education, library, and music room. High school remained in 1917 building.
