British Army Reserve Training Locations include four Army Training Unit (ATU) sites and two other locations where the Army Reserve Phase One Training courses are delivered. Reserve recruits are first selected at an Army Assessment Centre, before progressing onto Phase One Basic Training. [1]
Phase 1 training concludes with a 16-day long Phase 1 B training course normally held at the Army Training Centre Pirbright or the Army Training Regiment, Winchester, or Grantham. Recruits to the 4th Battalion, The Parachute Regiment [ 127 ] and the Honourable Artillery Company [ 128 ] complete their equivalent of CMS(R) within their own units.
The new regiment was equipped with BL 5.5-inch medium guns and had its headquarters at the Army Reserve centre at Barrack Road in Newcastle upon Tyne. [4] In 1976, it was redesignated as a Field Regiment and re-equipped with the 105mm light gun. Around 1990, the regimental headquarters moved to Napier Armoury in Gateshead. [4]
