Mount Meru is a dormant stratovolcano located 70 kilometres (43 mi) west of Kilimanjaro in southeast Arusha Region, Tanzania. Mount Meru is the second highest peak in Tanzania after Mount Kilimanjaro, which is just 60 km away and forms a backdrop to views from the park to the east. Arusha National Park lies on a 300-kilometre axis of Africa's most famous national parks, running from Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater in the west to Kilimanjaro National Park in the east.
Arusha Region is home to Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The region is comparable in size to the combined land and water areas of the state of Maryland in the United States. [2] Arusha Region is a tourist destination in Africa and is the hub of the northern Tanzania safari circuit.
The district is bordered to the north by Longido District, to the east by Meru District, to the south by Kilimanjaro Region, and to the west by Monduli District. the district surrounds Arusha City on all three sides. The district covers an area of 1,547.6 km 2 (597.5 sq mi). [2] The district is comparable in size to the land area of Guadeloupe. [3]

On Mount Meru's Southern Slopes is where Arusha City is situated. Its elevation ranges from 1,450 to 1,160 meters above sea level. The gently sloping plains are divided by the volcanically altered slopes that are from isolated peaks. Themi, Suye, Nemas, and many other hills are part of this group.
