Mount Meru is a dormant stratovolcano located 70 kilometres (43 mi) west of Kilimanjaro in southeast Arusha Region, Tanzania. At a height of 4,562.13 metres (14,968 ft), [ 1 ] [ 4 ] it is visible from Mount Kilimanjaro on a clear day, [ 5 ] and is the fifth-highest of the highest mountain peaks of Africa , dependent on definition.
Mount Meru is the second highest peak in Tanzania after Mount Kilimanjaro, which is just 60 km away and forms a backdrop to views from the park to the east. Arusha National Park lies on a 300-kilometre axis of Africa's most famous national parks, running from Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater in the west to Kilimanjaro National Park in the east.

It is the seat of Meru District. To the north and west, the ward is surrounded by the wards of Nkoaranga, Poli, and Seela Sing'isi. To the south and east, respectively, are the wards of Kikwe and Maroroni, and Maji ya Chai. [1] As of 2012, Usa River ward had a population of 23,437. [2]

On Mount Meru's Southern Slopes is where Arusha City is situated. Its elevation ranges from 1,450 to 1,160 meters above sea level. The gently sloping plains are divided by the volcanically altered slopes that are from isolated peaks. Themi, Suye, Nemas, and many other hills are part of this group.
