Dumfries (/ d ʌ m ˈ f r iː s / ⓘ dum-FREESS; Scots: Dumfries; from Scottish Gaelic: Dùn Phris [ˌt̪un ˈfɾʲiʃ]) is a market town and former royal burgh in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland, near the mouth of the River Nith on the Solway Firth, 25 miles (40 km) from the Anglo-Scottish border.
Today was initially hosted each Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday by RTÉ presenters Maura Derrane and Dáithí Ó Sé being broadcast from RTÉ Studios in Cork. After the end of the first season RTÉ announced that Bláthnaid Ní Chofaigh and Norah Casey's section of the show was being axed.

The term Dumfries and Galloway has been used since at least the 19th century – by 1911 the three counties had a united sheriffdom under that name.
