Primitive decorating is a style of decorating using primitive folk art style that is characteristic of a historic or early Americana time period, typically using elements with muted colors and a rough and simple look to them. Decorating in the primitive style can incorporate either true antiques or contemporary folk art. [1]
One of the most prestigious stained glass commissions of the 19th century, the re-glazing of the 13th-century east window of Lincoln Cathedral, Ward and Nixon, 1855. A revival of the art and craft of stained-glass window manufacture took place in early 19th-century Britain, beginning with an armorial window created by Thomas Willement in 1811–12. [1]
Originally, a stained-glass window was going to be the focal point of the chapel, but instead Forest Lawn decided to purchase the painting from Schnittjer’s gallery. A large gothic-style liturgical frame was built for the painting by Forest Lawn craftsmen, and it is still presented in this wooden frame at the Forest Lawn Museum.
The Martyrs' Window (1898-1899) is particularly influenced by Art Nouveau. It was awarded a gold medal at the World Exhibition in Paris in 1900. In Moscow, the Russian architect Fyodor Schechtel used stained glass windows to create the atmosphere of his most Art celebrated Nouveau house, the Ryabushinsky House, now the Gorky Museum .
Another term used to refer to the art of cold painting and gilding on the back of glass is verre églomisé, named after the French decorator Jean-Baptiste Glomy (1711–86), who framed prints using glass that had been reverse-painted. [1] In German it is known as Hinterglasmalerei. This art form has been around for many years.
