Eco-Schools was launched in 1994 in Denmark, Germany, Greece and the United Kingdom with the support of the European Commission. When the Foundation for Environmental Education became global in 2001, countries outside of Europe began joining the Eco-Schools programme as well. South Africa was the first country to do so.
The school has been part of the Eco-Schools project since September 2004. [7] In 2006, a controversial proposal to move the school to the site of St Machar Primary school was rejected after a campaign that included public meetings and a Freedom of Information request to establish the reason for the move. The organisation’s origins lie in the 1960s, with the "Beautiful Scotland in Bloom" campaign run by the Scottish Tourist Board and the Scottish Women's Rural Institute. After this, under the auspices of Keep Britain Tidy, its focus in Scotland included educating young people about the environment through the Eco-Schools programme.

Braeview Academy is a secondary school in Dundee, Scotland. Situated on top of a steep hill (brae), it was originally named Whitfield High School . It was damaged in a fire on 11 September 2018, which destroyed around half of the building.

Danestone Primary School started construction in 1984 and opened in 1986. The school was extended in 1988 to be able to accommodate up to 420 pupils. [2] Mrs Corser was the first headteacher, who left in 2005 as the longest serving head teacher in Danestone Primary School’s history. The current headteacher is Mrs Page. [2] It is an Eco-School.
