Port Arthur was a city in Northern Ontario, Canada, located on Lake Superior. In January 1970, it amalgamated with Fort William and the townships of Neebing and McIntyre to form the city of Thunder Bay .
Thunder Bay is composed of two formerly separate cities: Port Arthur and Fort William. Both still retain much of their distinct civic identities, reinforced by the buffering effect of the Intercity area between them. Port Arthur and Fort William each have their own central business districts and suburban areas.
Current River is a neighbourhood located north east of Port Arthur in the city of Thunder Bay, Ontario.It is separated from the main urban area of Thunder Bay by the Current River Greenway, a large parkland along the river after which the neighbourhood was named.
The current area is being infilled by an average of 3 acres (12,000 m 2) between each pier to create enough room for the new buildings. One feature that is the mainstay for the public half of the construction is a splash pad–rink which will be accessible all year long by tourists and the public.
