The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Samoan Islands refers to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and its members on the Samoan Islands. In 1890, there were 30 members in the Samoan islands. As of 2022, there were 104,131 members in 208 congregations.
Otto Vincent Haleck Jr. (born January 19, 1949) has been a general authority of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) since 2011. He is the first person from American Samoa or Samoa to become a general authority of the LDS Church and is also the first non–New Zealander from the Pacific Islands in this position.
Gordon B. Hinckley dedicated the new Apia Samoa Temple August 5, 1983, and rededicated it on September 4, 2005. The Apia Samoa Temple serves members from 20 stakes in American Samoa, and the islands of Upolu and Savai'i. As of 2020, Meliula M. Fata is the temple president, with his wife, Pono, serving as temple matron. [3]
