The A22 (Portuguese: Via do Infante de Sagres) is the principal motorway in the Algarve, Portugal. Named after Henry the Navigator, it connects Lagos to Castro Marim and connects to the A-49 Motorway (Spain) on the Guadiana International Bridge over the Guadiana River. [1] It is also part of European route E01.

Originally crossing the towns or city centres on its route, over the years many bypass roads have been built to avoid urban traffic. In 1961, the new motorway section between Lisbon and Vila Franca de Xira, part of the future Lisbon–Oporto Motorway, was integrated into the N1. The original route became an extension of the N10.

The A2 (Portuguese: Autoestrada do Sul) is a major motorway in Portugal. It connects Lisbon, the political capital of Portugal, and the 25 de Abril Bridge to Albufeira in Algarve, the country's southernmost mainland province. The first section of the A2 was opened in 1966 and the last one was completed in 2002.
