The S&P 500 Dividend Aristocrats is a stock market index composed of the companies in the S&P 500 index that have increased their dividends in each of the past 25 consecutive years. It was launched in May 2005.
The dividend payout ratio is calculated as DPS/EPS. According to Financial Accounting by Walter T. Harrison, the calculation for the payout ratio is as follows: Payout Ratio = (Dividends - Preferred Stock Dividends)/Net Income. The dividend yield is given by earnings yield times the dividend payout ratio:
