The Green Bay Phoenix, previously known as the UW–Green Bay Phoenix and UWGB Phoenix, are the athletic teams of the University of Wisconsin–Green Bay. A total of 14 Phoenix athletic teams compete in the Horizon League of NCAA Division I. The school does not sponsor an American football team.
Since 1994, Green Bay has competed in the Horizon League (formerly the Midwestern Collegiate Conference). The Phoenix saw success in the early-to-mid-1990s, making their first NCAA tournament appearance in 1991 and their first second-round appearance in 1994. [3] The team made another first-round appearance in 2016.
Green Bay's current head coach is Doug Gottlieb. He was hired as the Phoenix's head coach in May 2024, [2] replacing Sundance Wicks, who was hired to fill the coaching vacancy of the Wyoming Cowboys after the departure of their previous coach Jeff Linder following the 2023-24 season. [3]
