A bandsaw (also written band saw) is a power saw with a long, sharp blade consisting of a continuous band of toothed metal stretched between two or more wheels to cut material. They are used principally in woodworking , metalworking , and lumbering , but may cut a variety of materials.
Resaw blades of up to 1 inch (26 mm) may be fitted to a standard band saw. Many small and medium-sized sawmills use 1- to 1 + 1 ⁄ 2-inch band saw blades. Timber mills use larger resaws to rip large planks into smaller sizes. A typical mill sized resaw blade is eight inches wide and made with 16 gauge steel.
