In 1980, the Dobsons were moved to As the World Turns, and were replaced by Douglas Marland.Marland had written for such veteran soap writers as Agnes Nixon and Irna Phillips (the creator of The Guiding Light) and had written on his own, as well as acted on As the World Turns in the early 1970s.
The show's name was officially changed to Guiding Light in fall 1981, and the show expanded to an hour-long format on November 7, 1977. The show began remote location shooting in the late 1970s, with Nassau, Bahamas and Santo Domingo being the first places visited in June and July to September 1978.
