Gospel Hill Historic District is a national historic district located at Staunton, Virginia. The district encompasses 180 contributing buildings in a primarily residential section of Staunton. The district is characterized by an abundance of fine homes, ranging in size from cottages to mansions and dating from 1840 to 1930.
The second tenant farm consists of a frame, side-gabled, three-bay, 2 + 1 ⁄ 2-story I house with an ell addition, and sits on 63 acres of farm land. Cobble Hill Farm has several contributing sites and structures, including a garden, pool, shed complex, dairy and feed barns, a summerhouse, a tower, and the buildings of the tenant parcels.
During the mid-1800s, the area now known as Gypsy Hill Park served as the water supply for the city of Staunton via a local pumping plant that utilized the many underwater springs found in the area. In order to protect the surrounding area, Staunton purchased approximately 30 acres of land by 1876. By 1890, the city had purchased 60 more acres.
