Rather than playing with Bart alone after school, Milhouse brings Samantha to Bart's tree house and spends the entire time hugging and kissing her, to Bart's dismay. Meanwhile, Lisa worries that Homer's habit of eating fattening foods will cause his death. At Lisa's suggestion, Marge orders a subliminal weight loss tape for Homer.
One night, Homer and Marge go out and ask Grampa to babysit Bart and Lisa. Not trusting Grampa's competence, Marge also asks her sister Selma to watch Grampa and the kids. Homer, Bart and Lisa go to the carnival on the South-Side Sea Port, and Homer indulges in various varieties of kebabs. While devouring them indiscriminately, he accidentally swallows a flaming stick. He tries to douse it out with water, but gets tricked by Bart into drinking lighter fluid (prompting Homer to strangle and breathe fire at him).
Lisa decides to defend Bart and demands Krusty hire him. However, Krusty decides to hire Lisa as his intern instead. As Krusty's intern, Lisa is frequently bullied by Krusty. Noticing how Krusty degrades Lisa, Mel tells her that Krusty is very conceited, so in order to bear Krusty's rudeness, Lisa must compliment him.
