"Sweet Lullaby" is a song by French musical group Deep Forest that originally appeared on their eponymous album (1992). The song gained popularity in 1992 and 1993 when it was released as a single, becoming a top-30 hit in many European and Oceanian countries.
Deep Forest's signature song "Sweet Lullaby" centres on an uncredited recording of ancestral Baegu lullaby "Rorogwela", from Malaita, sung by a woman named Afunakwa, and recorded by ethnomusicologist Hugo Zemp.
The songs “Sweet Lullaby,” “Hunting,” and “Night Bird” feature three samples taken from the albums “Cameroon : Baka Pygmy Music” (1977) and “Polyphony of Deep Rain Forest - The Music of the Pygmy in Ituri” (1986, CD Ethnic Sound Series, vol. 4). More than 3,5 million units were sold worldwide. [5]
