This school serves students in grades 9 to 12 in the Baldwin Union Free School District. It is the eighth-largest high school in Nassau County. Previously Gulf Shores was in the Baldwin County School District. In 2017 all members of the Gulf Shores city council voted to establish the city's own school system. It was named for Henry Perrine Baldwin (1842–1911), co-founder of the Alexander & Baldwin corporation; his son, Henry Alexander Baldwin, broke ground for the 1940 school.
