William Boice Langford (1887–1977) was a golf course designer and civil engineer from Austin, Illinois.He graduated from both Yale and Columbia University.During the golden age of golf design between the world wars, he produced many great golf courses primarily in the Midwest states.
Since 1992 he has been the Director of Tennis at Ruth Lake Country Club in Hinsdale, Illinois. [ 6 ] His son, Brian Page Jr, competes on the ITF Futures and ATP Challenger circuits.
The championship was first played in 1914 at Chicago Golf Club in Wheaton, Illinois and was won by Charles Grimes. The Western Junior draws the top junior players from more than 40 states and internationally each year. The field is limited to 156 entrants. Exemptions into the Western Amateur are awarded to the top three finishers and ties.
